Flexibility

Over the years of being in the ministry, God has shown me that the need to be adaptable and flexible is essential to stay focused on what God’s will is for my life. The Bible is rich with examples about how God’s people had to be willing to think about what was important in their lives in different ways if they were going to survive in their worlds that wanted to simply crush them. The story of Joseph in Genesis is a great example of being flexible. He went from being his father’s favorite son, to being sold into slavery in Egypt, serving in Potipher’s house and being falsely imprisoned, to rising to be second in authority in Egypt. He adapted to his circumstances and was able to stay true to his trust in God. God rewarded that faithfulness as seen in his response to his brothers who came to Egypt to buy grain because of the famine in Canaan. This is what he said to his brothers… “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.” (Genesis 50: 20-21 NKJ). We must learn to be flexible to hear God’s plan for our lives.

The Need For Generosity

There is a tremendous need for us Christians to get back to being generous in our daily living. We are surrounded by so many people who have become so materialistic that the art of thinking about other people’s needs before our own has eluded us. We have all seen the catastrophic events of the storms in North Carolina, and the devastation of the wildfires in California. Just imagine that everything seems to be normal one day and then everything you had is gone the next day. Thousands of people are having to deal with this trauma. I am amazed at the generosity of so many people coming to help with these catastrophes by bringing campers, food, water, clothing, and building “tiny houses” for people to live in. This is how God intended for us to be generous. Giving to others without expecting anything in return.
